Something for You, Whatever Your Interest
Baywood Court is not your typical retirement community. Here, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the extraordinary array of activities and programs available to you, along with numerous meaningful volunteer and leadership opportunities. From literature groups and exercise classes to art expressions and travel to local destinations, there’s always something new, creative, educational, healthy, fun, productive, and interesting to do at Baywood Court.
Our residents work closely with our experienced, credentialed staff to develop activities and programs. These include resident gardens, The Cubby Hole (our resident-managed convenience store), and an extraordinary excursion program that features visits to dozens of interesting destinations each year. You can do it all at Baywood Court.
Activities & Programs
Everyone has something that sparks their interest. For some, it’s getting back to nature. For others, it’s working with their hands. Or volunteering. Or the arts. Or traveling. Or theatrical productions. Whatever puts the bounce into your step, you’ll find it at Baywood Court.
Each year, the Baywood Travelers club explores dozens of interesting locations. We’ve toured the Hayward Planetarium, explored the Gold Country in the Sierra foothills, visited strawberry farms in Salinas, and enjoyed a ferry ride and brunch in Sausalito.
Cubby Hole Store
The Cubby Hole is a resident-run store that offers cards, gifts, sweets, sundries, and best of all, convenience. Store profits are used for special projects, including educational grants for Baywood Court staff.
The Non-Strolling Players
A popular source of entertainment at Baywood Court is to attend a production of The Non-Strolling Players. The group has performed more than 50 plays and likens themselves to such classic radio productions as Lux Radio Theatre, Little Theatre Off Times Square, and other programs you may recall.
The Woodworking Shop was the brainchild of residents who acquired funding from Baywood Court, permits from the city, and donated their “labor of love” to build the shop from the ground up and outfit it with tools for all kinds of woodworking projects.
Literature & Workshop
Series Our resident-run literature series excites the intellect with an amazing variety of speakers and topics. In past years, guest speakers have discussed impressionist paintings, corporate ethics, religions of the world, and tales of travel. We also have a workshop series that focuses on health and other senior issues, such as scams and safety.
The Baywood Court Computer Lab enables residents to research topics of interest, check email or simply surf the Internet.
Enjoy a book in our beautiful library, or take it with you. The resident-managed Baywood Court Circulation Library is open to all residents. Our collection includes books donated by residents and large-print books donated by the Alameda County Library. Best of all, you can borrow books for as long as you wish.
At the Baywood Art Gallery, you can view exhibits of our residents and local artists. During the holiday season, the gallery features displays of residents’ handmade decorations.
Baywood Court residents built raised beds in the community garden for those who like to grow flowers and vegetables. Depending on the season, you’re likely to find roses, perennials, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, parsley, and a variety of seasonal flowers such as pansies, California poppies and crocuses.
Each year, the children and grandchildren of our residents, staff, and neighbors visit Baywood Court to participate in our intergenerational and seasonal celebrations.
At Baywood Court, you can choose among many ongoing wellness classes tailored to your needs and interests. Fitness testing, balance testing, therapy screenings, pool safety, personal training and health talks are all available to our residents.
Our water aerobics classes are popular and our recreational swimmers enjoy lap swimming in our beautiful pool or relaxing in the spa.
We also encourage residents to exercise their minds as well as their bodies, which they can do at our cognition and brain fitness classes.
If you prefer to exercise on your own, feel free to use our fitness center, where there is always a kinesiologist available to answer any questions and help design a custom wellness program to suit your needs.
For those who enjoy the outdoors, walk on the scenic paths that surround our community to the nearby Farmer’s Markets, or the Hayward Japanese Garden.
Whatever your pace, there’s something for you at Baywood Court.
